JANUARY FARM UPDATE
Regenerative. Pasture-raised. Nutrient dense + delicious protein.
It is winter on the farm. As I write this, we have five inches of snow and a quarter inch of ice on the ground and more to come.
Although winter is one of my favorite times of the year, it can also be the most challenging. Nestled between days of calm and quiet are days of fierce biting winds with frozen ground and water troughs.
But the animals never cease to amaze me - they’re tough and resilient. Capable, hardy, and instinctual. The cattle and sheep bunker down during the coldest of nights, huddling close together to retain body heat. The guardian dogs do not take a night off - ever so vigilant and alert, even during the harshest of nights. It is with awe and admiration we work with these animals - learning from them as we support and care for them.
Wild Roots Farmstead is our new life-long journey. It is our family-owned and operated regenerative farm in Thornton, West Virginia, and the place we call home. My family and I returned to West Virginia to be closer to family and to raise our children, Emeline (14), Peter (12), and Timmy (10) in way that is reminiscent of simpler times, through deep connection to the land and each other. We set out to grow and raise our own food and offer that same protein source to our community.
We’ve spent the better part of the past two years identifying the best breed of animal to produce the healthiest and highest quality of meat we can. We acquired our sheep from an experienced shepherd in Ohio, our cattle from a seasoned rancher in Kansas, and our pigs from a master pig farmer in Pennsylvania.
We raise all of our animals out on pasture and in woodlands and strive to implement regenerative farming practices, resulting in meat that's more flavorful and significantly more nutritious than conventionally raised alternatives.
As we look forward to the year ahead, we’re excited to expand our Farm Store product line - As a sign of our appreciation to each one of you, we’re pleased to offer a 10% discount on all bulk orders, if you pre-order before March 1st. Use discount code “WildRoots2026”

TIMMY’S TERRIFIC FARM FRESH EGGS!

In Spring of 2025, our youngest son, Timothy (age 10), took charge of our laying flock and started his own egg business. He ordered twenty-five, day old chicks and patiently waited for them to reach mature, laying age - he is now collecting over two dozen eggs per day! His hens enjoy non-GMO feed and roam freely out on pasture, scratching and foraging for greens, seeds, bugs, and other chicken goodies. They are regularly moved to a fresh patch of ground, effectively improving pasture and flock health. Timmy offers a weekly subscription at the price of $7.50 per dozen.
